Oaks Christian Online School freshman completes his community service through the Valencia office of Help the Children.
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) December 16, 2011
Paul-Henri Jeannel Jr., also known as Hank, is an Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) freshman, who is completing his semester community service requirement by sorting can goods and stacking shelves in the Valencia Help the Children warehouse. Help the Children is a 13 year-old organization that provides food and clothing to children across the United States and the world. Through his many visits to the warehouse, Hank has come to appreciate why community service is part of his yearly OCO requirements.
âœNow I see that once you do community service, you like it so much that youâll probably continue doing it on your own forever. Itâs been great,â says Hank.
Hank completes his online school work at home while living with his dad, sister and younger brother. His father is an Air Force veteran whose military disability provides the opportunity for Hank to attend a University of California campus free of charge in the future. Even so, Hank wants to keep his options open for attending a Christian college; heâs excited about all the possibilities. After moving schools regularly as part of a military family, he is grateful for the opportunity to stay with one, collegeâ“preparatory high school.
âœMy plan is to work hard now, so I can make choices in the future. The Lord will lead me through this high school experience.â
Hank also works as a team with his family to provide for the needs of his sister, Hannah, who has Cerebral Palsy and is developmentally delayed. Heâs a self-described âœgood-hearted big brotherâ to his outgoing, junior high-aged sister.
âœMy sister has taught me not to be timid with people. She doesnât care what other people think and loves to laugh.â
Though Hank is involved in community service and helping in his family, he also has time to be involved in his local church, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA, and work ahead on his schoolwork. He enjoys the online school community, with teachers all over the country and friends in California and Texas.
Hank says, âœThere are so many things I like about this online school. I have a list of what needs to be done, and on Friday I can look at the completed list and say, â˜That was all me.ââ
