Interest In Social Site Pinterest Increasing Tremendously
Describing itself as a pinboard to organize and share things you love, invitation-only social site Pinterest is growing at a phenomenal pace with nearly 11 million visits in the week that ended December 17.
This is almost 40 times the number of visits it received during a single week six months earlier, making it one of the top 10 social networking sites according to Experian Hitwise, which measures and analyzes consumer behavior on the web, reports Erick Schonfeld for TechCrunch.
Pinterest is daily habit for many people and this is reflected in the increasing number of page views. Hitwise doesn´t break out estimates for visitors, but comScore has Pinterest at 4.9 monthly uniques in November, up from 3.3 million in October, Paul Sloan reports for CNET
Pinterest encourages members to collect photos and links to products and as a socially curated shopping catalog and can be quite addictive. Interest is self-generating with links and interests feeding off of each other.
Fifty-eight percent of visitors are females, between 25 and 44 years old and many of the visitors are from California and Texas, but the network maintains mainstream appeal across the middle of the country, with strong activity coming from Alabama, Tennessee, and Utah.
