New Report: CES 2012 – The Innovation Circus
The Consumer Electronics industry is in transition, but first it must pass through a circus of innovation. A free DIGDIA report makes some provocative observations about CES 2012.

Now that you’ve read several articles and heard several reporters talk about the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, what does it all indicate about the industry itself? DIGDIA (http://www.digdia.com), a market analysis firm focused on markets enabled by digital media, has a new free report that makes some observations about CES 2012 and the industry itself.
Unlike the last couple of years when 3D was a clear theme, this year’s CES did not seem to have a single major product or feature theme. But, to be sure, there may have been more innovation at this year’s show than any in the past.
One could describe this year’s CES as an “Innovation Circus”. New innovation turned up in all kinds of ways and product categories. There was innovation in everything from 3D smartphone cases, to radar detectors with their own social network, to pocket hydrogen fuel cells, to $100 DNA sequencer chips. These were just some of the more unusual things seen at CES.
More importantly, there were some major “rings” in this innovation circus.
For example, it is quite obvious that dozens of major players are racing to be the next big content network. It is not just the traditional broadcast and cable networks, or the traditional content aggregators of the past. Now it includes device manufacturers, Internet players and game creators. As for the last category, we are not talking about a video game; but cartoons – as in one being produced for Angry Birds.
