ARLINGTON, VA (PRWEB) January 23, 2012

The Board of Directors of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD) concluded an extensive nationwide search by selecting Daniel Stoecker as National VOAD´s new Executive Director.

Mickey Caison, President of the Board of Directors, introduced Daniel Stoecker to the National VOAD membership in a letter this week. “I am very excited. With the addition of Daniel, National VOAD is able to continue to build on our rich heritage of leaders. His experience and commitment to Cooperation, Communication, Coordination, and Collaboration will help guide our organizations to a new level of service to the member organizations.”

An experienced executive leader and manager with an outstanding track record of delivering results, Stoecker previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Executive Director for BPSOS, Inc., a national non-profit with over 30 years of service through a national network of branch offices and international operations in Asia. Working closely with federal, state, and local authorities, he has championed many community concerns: neighborhood development, community health, human trafficking, equal access to justice, and disaster recovery.

A board member for numerous non-profit organizations, Stoecker was the Founding Chairman for the City of Houston Annual Citizenship Week, a program that encourages and celebrates diversity, inclusion, and promotes civic engagement, and was appointed by two mayors to serve in that role from 2009-2011. He has also served as Chairman for the City of Houston Mayor´s Advisory Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, comprised of leaders representing many diverse communities.

In the emergency services field, Stoecker has served as a member of, and helped to establish local VOADs and Long Term Recovery Committees. He was selected to serve as an expert presenter at the last two National VOAD Conferences on the subjects of cultural competency and disaster case management. He has managed disaster response and recovery efforts and case management programs for such events as Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, and the Gulf Oil Spill.

Prior to entering the civic sector in 2005, Stoecker gained over twenty years of private sector management experience in the telecommunications and media industries with Fortune 50, INC. 100, small businesses and start-up companies.

He is a graduate of the International Studies program at the University of St. Thomas, and now serves on the Advisory Board for its Center for International Studies. He is also a proud AmeriCorps VISTA alumnus.
