Samsung Introduces Galaxy Tab 2
Samsung Electronics introduced its Galaxy Tab 2 on Monday, featuring the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
The new tablet will be equipped with a 7-inch screen, and will feature a 1-GHz, dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Tab 2 will have dual-facing cameras, with a VGA lens on the front and a 3-megapixel lens on the back.
Samsung said the new tablet will ship in either a Wi-Fi version or a 3G version worldwide sometime in March.
The device will be able to take advantage of Samsung Hub services, which includes 17 million songs to choose from, and 2.3 million e-books.
It is also the first device to ship with Samsung’s AllShare Play service, which allows users to stream content to the tablet from their PC, smartphone, or third-party device.
Samsung is also making 8-gigabyte, 16-gigabyte, or 32-gigabyte versions of the new tablet, all of which come equipped with a MicroSD card slot.
The company said in a press release that the battery for the Galaxy Tab 2 is 4,000 mAh, which should last for up to 39 hours.
Apple is expected to be announcing a new iPad 3 tablet sometime in February, and rumors are circulating it will launch in the first or second week in March. This timeframe would coincide with last year’s iPad 2 launch.
Various reports say Apple’s new iPad 3 will carry a display of 2048×1536, which is a higher resolution display than typical high-definition televisions.
Reports also say that the yet-to-be-announced device by Apple will pave the way for 1080p iTunes content and a new Apple TV update
