iPad 3 Logic Board Shows ‘A5X’ Chip
An iPad 3 logic board has emerged in photos on a forum post at Chinese site WeiPhone, according to a Macrumors report.
Apple is closing in on a year since it first announced the iPad 2, which was released in stores on March 11.
In the photos, an “A5X” appears near an Apple logo on the chip. This chip would differ from Apple’s current A5 in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
This chip would most likely be a partial upgrade to the current A5, as opposed to Apple traditionally making an entirely new chip altogether and calling it A6.
The logic board also reveals a 16 GB flash memory chip from Hynix, and a rectangular-shaped Apple-branded chip.
A media invite for a press event could be sent out by Apple as early as this week if the company sticks to the same schedule it had last year for the product release.
Other reports in the past few months claim the new iPad will have an “ultra high-resolution display” and LTE capabilities.
Rumors also say that the new iPad will include the same rear 8 megapixel camera found on the iPhone 4S.
