The list was compiled by Workplace Dynamics LLC and was announced in the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News.

The “Top Workplaces 2012” recognition is based on an anonymous survey completed by employees to measure their experiences with their companies. The results of the employee survey were compared across participating organizations. Employees were asked to respond to survey questions about the organization´s direction, management, execution, workplace conditions, career opportunities, and pay/benefits.
