Industry Retail Group Supports Folds of Honor Foundation and Calls for Retailers and Retail Professionals to Join the Cause

March 20, 2012

IRG is dedicating financial support to Folds of Honor Foundation’s vision to ensure no military family is left behind in the fight to preserve American freedom.

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) March 20, 2012

Industry Retail Group, Inc. (IRG) (http://www.industryretail.com), a leading provider of retail-centric, broadband-based applications and services, has selected Folds of Honor Foundation as its charity of focus beginning in 2012.

Through scholarships and other assistance, Folds of Honor Foundation gives back to the spouses and children of soldiers killed or disabled in service to our country. It provides healing, hope and an opportunity for dreams to be realized. The Folds of Honor Foundation was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot, golf course owner, PGA Professional and USGA member. A major in the Oklahoma Air National Guard and a decorated military aviator, Rooney has served three combat tours in Iraq. Since its inception, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 2,600 educational scholarships.

Gabe Martinez, CTO of IRG and United States Air Force veteran said, “We´re financially supporting Folds of Honor Foundation because we value their work, and they are clearly making a difference. We´re taking it a step further though, and asking retailers across America to join us in this effort. This includes both retail companies and retail professionals – everyone can do their part. I´m proud to support this fine organization. The greatest impact would be if retailers collectively supported Folds of Honor Foundation as an act of giving back to military families. I have full confidence many retailers will join us.”

Retailers and retail professionals can donate directly to Folds of Honor Foundation on their website, at http://www.foldsofhonor.org/join-mission. For more information on how to partner with IRG in this cause, please visit http://www.industryretail.com/folds-of-honor-foundation.html.

Folds of Honor Foundation states that over 700,000 soldiers have been killed or wounded in the ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan–Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. These service members’ families exceed the national average of 2.5 dependents per household. As of January 1, 2012, over one million dependents have been adversely affected by multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. More than 87% of the dependents affected by the recent wars do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. While the federal government provides some support for these families, it cannot succeed alone without proactive civilian organizations to assist.

About the Folds of Honor Foundation

More than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and 87 percent of them do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities, is helping fill that gap by providing educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.

Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional, USGA member and former F-16 military pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard, founded the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007 following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. While a passenger on a commercial flight, Major Rooney witnessed an event that would profoundly change his life. As the plane landed, the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an American hero on board — Corporal Brock Bucklin – and his twin brother, Corporal Brad Bucklin, is accompanying him home from Iraq. As a sign of respect, please remain seated while Corporal Bucklin´s family receives him in his final homecoming.” Major Rooney watched through the window of the plane as the flag-draped casket was lowered. He saw a family waiting for Brock, and a little four-year old boy waiting for his father. This tragic homecoming inspired Major Rooney to create the Folds of Honor Foundation.
