‘Path Performance Analysis Module’ Monitors Service Paths, Helps Ensure Service Level Agreements

Santa Clara, Calif. (PRWEB) March 26, 2012

Packet Design has released a new module for Route Explorer, the industry’s only network management tool offering real-time monitoring, analysis and planning of IP/MPLS network routing operations, that integrates, monitors, analyzes and plans the performance characteristics of IP routing operations.

Path Performance Analysis Module (PPAM), an add-on software license that can be added to any product in the Route Explorer family, lets network engineers integrate per-link delay data into a network-wide routing topology, and immediately understand the end-to-end delay of all network paths, not just those monitored by traditional performance solutions. PPAM lets users monitor paths for changes that increase delay beyond service-level agreement (SLA) thresholds, find root causes for path delay problems, comprehensively analyze paths including delay characteristics, and model changes in order to ensure acceptable path delay behavior. Equipped with this new level of network intelligence, providers can ensure the performance of sensitive services.

“Service providers, as well as I.T. departments of financial services and other enterprises, need to ensure that their networks deliver on critical performance commitments, but prior to PPAM they faced limitations in understanding the performance of the network cloud itself.”, said Jeff Raice, Packet Design’s executive vice president of marketing and business development. “Traditional performance management tools focus on monitoring end-to-end performance statistics from the perspective of the user. While they can provide performance measurements between select end points in the network, in most cases they cannot provide a precise view of the actual service path because of the highly dynamic nature of IP routing. Without the ability to understand this essential aspect of their network, providers are exposed to SLA payouts while financial services organizations risk huge transaction processing liabilities when the network doesn’t comply with the latency requirements needed to support critical applications and services. Route Explorer’s integration of performance data means that network managers can now easily track how well the entire network is delivering on these performance commitments, quickly detect and remedy path delay problems, and improve planning processes to ensure that performance degradations are not introduced to the production network.”

Pricing and Availability

Path Performance Analysis Module is available immediately. Pricing for an add-on license for existing Route Explorer deployments starts at $25,000 (U.S. list).

About Packet Design, Inc.

Packet Design, Inc. pioneered the field of route analytics and is the leading supplier of network appliances that provide routing-layer visibility into IP networks. The company’s products create an accurate layer 3 topology map, analyze routing events, and provide a unique end-to-end, “path-aware” view of network traffic (including MPLS-VPN customer traffic), letting network engineers quickly pinpoint network problems and accurately model changes. Packet Design solutions help manage networks in hundreds of organizations, including many of the world’s largest service providers, global enterprises (financial, retail pharmaceutical and other firms), government agencies and educational institutions.
