Samsung Announcing New Galaxy Smartphone May 3

April 17, 2012

Samsung announced on Monday that it would be unveiling its new Galaxy S smartphone on May 3 in London.

The press invite says “COME AND MEET THE NEXT GALAXY” with its hosting venue being listed as Earls Court Exhibition Center in London.

The South Korean company became the world’s top smartphone manufacturer last year after strong sales of Galaxy smartphones.

The third-generation of its flagship smartphone comes after Samsung released Galaxy S II in late April last year.

Samsung sold over 40 million Galaxy smartphones since the model was originally introduced in June 2010.

Samsung estimated a few weeks ago that its first-quarter operating profit would hit a record number due to strong sales of Galaxy series smartphones.

The company will be releasing its latest edition to the Galaxy smartphone series in London, which is the host city for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Samsung’s market share in China doubled after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  The company has a sponsorship deal with the International Olympics Committee, which will run out in 2016.

Rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S III could feature a 4.8-inch touchscreen, as well as a ceramic case and quad-core processor.

The smartphone could also be as thin as 0.27-inches and be equipped with an updated camera, according to various reports.

The invitation to the Samsung event shows paint-like blobs, which could suggest that the new smartphone will feature an S-Pen stylus found on the company’s Galaxy Note tablet/phone hybrid.
