Unicon Announces New Services and Support for Internet2’s Grouper Groups Management Toolkit
Unicon now provides services and support for Grouper, a project of the Internet2 Middleware Initiative
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) April 23, 2012
Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting services provider specializing in open source for the education market, today announced at the Spring Internet2® Member Meeting new services and support for Grouper TM, an open source project of the Internet2 Middleware Initiative. Unicon provides services to incorporate Grouper as a strategy for the IAM infrastructure. Services for Grouper include evaluation, implementation, customization, integration, consulting, mentoring, and support. Unicon now supports Grouper with its innovative Cooperative Support Program, which provides member organizations with a predictable cost support solution for their open source applications including CAS, Grouper, Sakai, Shibboleth, and uPortal. The program guarantees a dedicated team of expert development and technical support specialists for direct technical support and assistance. Development work and fixes performed by the Cooperative Support program for individual organizations are contributed back and shared with the Grouper community.
“I’m extremely pleased that Unicon is adding Grouper to its Cooperative Support program portfolio,” said Tom Barton, Senior Director for Architecture, Integration, and Security and Chief Information Security Officer at the University of Chicago. “This will open the door for more organizations to implement Grouper and benefit from its substantial access management capabilities. It will also provide even more community input to the Grouper project, helping us to ensure that it remains tuned to the needs of the community.”
Grouper enables project managers, departments, institutions and end users to create and manage institutional and personal groups. It puts control of a group in the hands of its steward and enables the person to manage the membership and what resources it can access. Grouper provides a way to define a group once and use that group across multiple applications. Unicon can integrate Grouper with uPortal, Sakai, and other enterprise applications.
“Grouper provides sophisticated group management capabilities, making it possible to use the same group or role across many applications. It is evolving into a critical component of open source IAM architecture,” said John Blakley, Chief Executive Officer of Unicon. “Adding Grouper to our Cooperative Support program was a natural evolution of our IAM practice for higher education and organizations.”
Unicon will have representatives in attendance at this year´s Spring Internet2 Member Meeting, April 22 – 25, in Arlington, VA, and at the InCommon Confab, April 26 – 27, also in Arlington, VA, which immediately follows the Spring Internet2 Member Meeting.
Grouper is an open source toolkit for managing groups. It is designed to function as the core element of a common infrastructure for managing group information across integrated applications and repositories. Grouper combines multiple sources of group information, both automated and manual, in managing memberships and other group information in a Group Registry, a central information asset complementary to a site’s Person Registry.
