CARSTAR Grants Make-A-Wish to High School Senior

CARSTAR Auto Body Repair Experts Join the Make-A-Wish Foundation to Revamp a High School Senior’s Truck

Auburn, WA (PRWEB) April 27, 2012

On April 29th, The Puget Sound Carstar Business Group teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to customize the beat-up pickup truck of high school student Garrett Light. Light, a senior at Mountainview High in Auburn, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer 13 months ago and received a tibia transplant in his right leg after doctors removed the malignant tumor. Light underwent 14 rounds of chemotherapy and has been cancer-free since October of 2011. Bob Bjorneby of Bob Bjorneby´s CARSTAR Federal Way Collision took charge of the project and coordinated the efforts of the participating CARSTAR Collision Repair Centers.

Light’s medical struggles have only made him more resilient. “I think knowing that his dad’s on the other side waiting for him gives him some peace,” said Robin Light of her son, whose father died from cancer at age 44 when Light was only nine years old. An appreciation for everyone and everything around him is one of Light’s defining characteristics. “I’m pretty sure you guys have seen me crutching around,” he told his classmates in a speech during his school’s Make-A-Wish pep assembly. “And it really makes you think about life and makes you feel blessed for what you have.”

After the assembly, Light joined his classmates outside in chants of “Move that bus!”, unaware that behind the bus sat the completely restored pickup truck his grandmother had given him after his grandfather’s death. New speakers, bumper, rims, and candy-apple paint job–an estimated value of $15,000–were the work of a team of volunteers from CARSTAR Auto Body in collaboration with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alaska & Washington. The overhauled truck was presented to Light on the Foundation’s second annual World Wish Day.

Puget Sound CARSTAR Auto Body Repair Experts are proud supporters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and have helped to raise over $350,000 for the organization in communities nationwide. Bob and Linda Bjorneby of Bob Bjorneby’s CARSTAR Federal Way Collision received recognition at the 2011 CARSTAR National Conference in Seattle for their extensive work with the Foundation. Early 2011 saw the end of the CARSTAR SuperStang Muscle Tour–a national fundraising effort to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation through appearances at automobile shows, community events, and CARSTAR Collision Repair shops across the country.
