Integration and Messaging Expert from CERN to Speak at CamelOne
BEDFORD, Mass., May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — FuseSource Corp., leaders in open source integration and messaging, today announced that Felix Nikolaus Ehm, technical engineer at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will present to the general session at CamelOne – an event designed for enterprise users of open source integration and messaging technologies. CamelOne 2012 will be held in Boston, Massachusetts from May 15-16, 2012 and will bring together many celebrated integration and messaging experts to share success stories and best practices.
Ehm, a software developer and architect, will share with attendees how CERN used FuseSource(TM) offerings based on popular Apache Software Foundation projects, including Apache ActiveMQ and Apache Camel, to create the Control System for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), one of the largest scientific instruments on Earth, and its Injectors. The Control System and the large-scale, reliable messaging it delivers, make it possible to monitor and operate the accelerators and many thousands of devices that must work together for successful beam operations within the LHC.
“Ultimately, the Control System we created in the Beams Controls Group at CERN is but one link in an extensive chain of systems that together make it possible to operate the Large Hadron Collider and further the scientific discoveries CERN’s particle accelerators make possible,” said Ehm. “CamelOne presents us with a welcome opportunity to share what we’ve learned with others who must reliably transmit vast amounts of information quickly, reliably and securely among numerous machines.”
Ehm’s presentation, titled “Large Scale Messaging with ActiveMQ for Particle Accelerators at CERN,” is scheduled for May 16 at 4:20 p.m. EDT, and will offer details on CERN’s use of open source integration and messaging technology from FuseSource since 2005. The session will also reveal the challenges that open source addressed. Attendees will learn how CERN created an infrastructure that delivered the uncompromising reliability it needed – and made it possible to know what is happening to thousands of machines at any moment – how to achieve dramatic scalability as experiments evolve, and how to create applications that work equally well among the numerous operating systems and communications protocols in use within the scientific community.
“It’s awe-inspiring when you think of what the controls team at CERN accomplished with ActiveMQ,” said Rob Davies, CTO of FuseSource and co-founder of Apache Software Foundation Projects Apache ServiceMix, Apache ActiveMQ, and Apache Camel. “The insights and real world experiences Felix will share in his presentation exemplify the spirit of CamelOne and why this is the one event where integration and messaging receives the focus it deserves. In this day and age, when the enterprise extends far beyond the walls of the data center, the experience of CERN is relevant to all organizations and worthy of emulation.”
