Laptop Power UK reflect on the 2011/12 LED laptop screen adoption by Packard Bell

May 9, 2012

In the past, laptop screen technology was CCFL, otherwise known as Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. This essentially means the screen was ‘lit’ by small, thin fluorescent lamps similar to those found in offices. The different colours produced on screen were made by changes in power going to the LCD. This was all powered from an inverter – a small board of electronics regulating the power going to the LCD. This was quite power hungry though and drained quite a lot of power from the laptop battery meaning battery life was limited to an extent. A more power efficient method was welcomed.

Packard Bell along with all other major manufacturers have now moved away from this CCFL technology and are now adopting LED laptop screens in all of their new laptop models. Light Emitting Diodes are require far less power and are therefore more efficient. A Laptop Power UK spokesman gave his full support towards laptop manufacturers adoption of LED technology. Andrew Roughley said “ We at Laptop Power UK fully support the use of LED laptop screens in all new laptops”. “As a more efficient technology, this is a step in the right direction as we all attempt to improve our carbon footprint”. “Not only is this beneficial to the environment but the laptop owner also has a better experience when using their laptop”. “Their battery life will be improved and the quality of image is far better with sharper colours, better contrast and an overall more vivid image”

As the demand for Packard Bell CCFL replacement laptop screens falls you may find when coming to replace a damaged panel that prices are steadily on the increase. If you own an LED screen and are unfortunate enough to have damaged it and need a repair then you may be pleasantly surprised. With prices currently at an all time low for the likes of replacement 15.6” LED screens there is an opportunity to save money by shopping on-line. As Packard Bell lead the way towards LED technology, one thing is for sure, it is here to stay.
