The perfect recipe for a perfect Father´s Day: add impressive microbrews to impressive scenery. Mix in a dash of Jacuzzi suite and a heap of excellent food. Enjoy. This year, Gateway Lodge´s Father´s Day Bed and Brew Weekend Package features expertly crafted artesian beer and succulent culinary offerings- all in the resplendent scenery that is Cook Forest State Park. The weekend starts with a homebrewing symposium, presented by Porterhouse Brewshop. The tranquility commences this June 15-17.

The full Bed and Brew package features a fireside Jacuzzi suite, homebrew symposium, breakfast both mornings and a tantalizing five course meal on Saturday evening, complete with beer pairings. Nashville born Ben Shannon will also add some of his country Americana live acoustic music to Saturday´s soiree. The weekend is just $539 per couple, or $499 without Saturday evening´s pairings.

The beer tasting menu features pairings from Cleveland´s own Great Lakes Brewery. Also on the menu: an amuse bouche of potato crusted shrimp with garlic and tomato remoulade, a triple mushroom white bean chili, a spinach and chevre salad, and his choice of blackened tuna steak with béarnaise, pan seared beef tenderloin, smoked barbequed pheasant breast or grilled eggplant. The meal finale is a chocolate cappuccino torte with raspberry sauce.

The beer tasting menu will also be available as a standalone. Seatings are at 5:30 or 8 p.m., and are $50 per person plus $20 per person for beer pairings.

Bordered by the wild and scenic Clarion River, Cook Forest State Park is renowned for its virgin white pine and majestic hemlock trees. A 2009 National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation winner, Cook Forest is entwined with miles of trails that can be traversed by foot, bicycle, ATV, or motorcycle. The river teems with trout and panfish waiting to be reeled in. The Lodge´s billiards room features a juniper root billiards table and a vast selection of aged bourbons and whiskeys, served up in the old-world atmosphere of a 1930s constructed pub.

The Gateway Lodge and Black Bear Cabins are privately owned by Deb Adams, who believes deeply in contributing to her community. The Lodge and Cabins have partnered with multiple area businesses to offer educational workshops on topics such as nature, art, nutrition and wellness. The Gateway Restaurant is a fine dining destination that sources much of its fare from local farmers. The Lodge and Cabins also participate in the PA Wilds Artisan Trail by exhibiting works from local artists.
