Increased Mobile Web Security is the Focus of a New Strategic Relationship Between Alpha Software, Inc. and CPE Interactive, Inc
BURLINGTON, Mass., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Alpha Software, Inc. announced today that it has formed a strategic relationship with CPE Interactive, Inc., a security training company, focused on mobile web security. Alpha’s customers are using Alpha Five, the company’s rapid application development platform, to create and deploy data-driven business applications that run on any PC, tablet or smartphone.
The good news of the current mobile device revolution is that tablets and smartphones are empowering a rapidly expanding number of employees to work “anywhere, anytime.” The bad news is that the security of an organization’s proprietary information and data can be compromised if and when these mobile devices are lost or stolen.
A clearly documented and enforceable mobile security policy is critical to reducing the risk that sensitive business information will be compromised. Developing, implementing, and maintaining such a policy takes a combination of education and technology.
“The Alpha Five platform enables developers to efficiently and cost-effectively create and deploy the mobile web business apps that the market now demands,” said Richard Rabins, co-chairman and co-founder of Alpha Software. “Our developer community has made it clear that their customers have serious concerns about information security and risk management related to this mobile web initiative. As a result, we have formed a strategic relationship with CPE Interactive that will provide our customers with the training and support that they need to address these concerns with confidence.”
Norm Kelson, president of CPE Interactive, Inc. and a 20 year veteran of the professional education training profession, added “This strategic relationship will enable CPE Interactive to provide critical benefits to Alpha Software’s developer community. Our company has extensive experience training professionals in best practices and application controls. We will now be able to extend these best practices to the developers who are using the Alpha Five rapid application development platform to create mobile web-based business applications for their organizations. Our joint goal is to ensure that these Alpha Five applications are being developed in a secure manner that minimizes security risks.”
In its sixth annual study, the Ponemon Institute found the average organizational cost of a data breach increased to US$7.2 million and cost companies an average of US$214 per compromised record, markedly higher when compared to US$204 in 2009. The study is based on the actual data breach experiences of 51 U.S. companies from 15 different industry sectors. If you were to extrapolate this worldwide, the annual cost to business from lost or pilfered data is enormous–and likely to grow as mobile devices are easy to lose or steal.
“We’re delighted to be working closely with Alpha Software on this initiative,” said Jeff Kalwerisky, Vice President and Director of Information Security and Technical Training at CPE Interactive. “They understand that the mobile web is a rapidly expanding technology initiative, and that as their customers, the developers who are using their Alpha Five platform to create the data-driven business apps that are now running on a full range of mobile computing devices, are becoming increasingly aware of the serious challenges that organizations face regarding information, security and data privacy. Mobile devices are increasingly seen as both strategic and tactical for the enterprise. Unfortunately, applications for mobile devices suffer from the same security weaknesses as applications for previous generations of hardware. Our relationship with Alpha Software will help their developers understand these challenges and prepare them to prevent bad outcomes.”
Alpha Software and CPE Interactive will be working closely to develop a wide-ranging curriculum for Alpha’s customers that will address secure development practices, mobile development policies and standards, and specific control requirements for business applications developed for a mobile environment.
