Information Security Executive® (ISE®) Central Winners Announced by T.E.N.
J.C. Penney, Sallie Mae and Schlumberger Bring Home Top Honors in 2012

T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, announced finalists and winners last evening for the ISE® Central Awards 2012. Awards were presented at a dinner gala held at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, Dallas. They recognize both Information Security Executives and Projects for outstanding achievements in risk management, data asset protection, compliance, privacy and network security.
This year’s recipient of the Information Security Executive® Award was Scott Howitt, director of IT risk and capacity management, J.C. Penney. Howitt was recognized for his implementation of a mobility initiative within J.C. Penney retail stores, and the roll out of a digital platform integrated with the organization’s website and infrastructure. He also developed data classification risk management for applications that fostered a greater understanding of risk management needs, allowing for better-informed security related decisions that reduced cost. He regularly participates in industry wide forums and governance boards, a crime task force and national governance associations.
Finalists for the Executive of the Year category were also showcased during the awards program for their achievements in the industry. They included Lee Parrish, VP & CSO, Parsons Corp., Mario Chiock, global chief cyber security authority, Schlumberger and Tim Stanley, director, information and infrastructure security, Waste Management.
The Information Security Project of the Year Award was awarded to Sallie Mae for “Sallie Mae’s Enterprise-wide Continuous Monitoring and Vulnerability Management Program Evolution.” Accepting on behalf of the project team was Jerry Archer, senior VP and CSO. The project has been nationally recognized for its innovation in automating and successfully transforming the security of a complex IT environment at a lower cost, and was endorsed by White House National security strategists.
As part of the evening’s recognition, Mario Chiock, global chief cyber security authority, Schlumberger, was announced as the ISE® Central People’s Choice Award Winner. The award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by the registered attendees.
The ISE® of the Decade Central Award was given to John South, CISO, Heartland. The award, making its decade debut in 2012, will be given throughout the year to an exceptional information security executive who has achieved the highest distinction in advancing the security industry in their region. South, a 2011 ISE® Central Executive Award recipient, was chosen amongst six previous ISE® Award winner nominees.
