Broken Promises Analyzes New Market Research Comparing Technology With Timeless Tradition

A survey from Intel Corporation reveals that travelers seem to be more emotionally attached to their mobile devices than wedding rings. Broken Promises discusses these findings and analyzes the fundamental differences that may contribute to these findings.

On June 20, 2012, Intel Corporation released survey findings, which indicated that travelers seem to have an emotional bond with their mobile devices than they do to more traditional sentimental and personal items. Among these items were wedding rings. Grassroots consumer advocacy group, Broken Promises, examines what may or may not contribute to these personal attachments while emphasizing the symbolism behind wedding rings.

2,500 people served as respondents to the Intel Corporation survey and among the young adults polled, 87 percent actually reported they felt happier when traveling with their devices. 77% of respondents ranked misplacing or losing their mobile computing device as being extremely stressful while only 55% responded that losing their wedding ring would induce that kind of panic. The only thing more stressful than losing a mobile device was losing a wallet.

Members of the Broken Promises coalition find these statistics hard to believe, claiming that comparing mobile devices to wedding rings is as unrealistic and incomparable as it gets. Broken Promises is a consumer advocacy group dedicated to raising awareness about the brittle nature of tungsten carbide rings that are often misrepresented by manufacturers and retailers.

The ABC News reported that thirty percent of those surveyed, 30% admitted that they did not take proper security precautions with their electronic devices — even admitting to leaving them unattended.

“That´s a great point,” says Clay Darrohn, representative for Broken Promises. “People lose their mobile devices by leaving them places — it´s not very often you leave your wedding ring in an airport or on a train. I don´t think that you can really compare rings to cell phones or laptops. It´s not very often that there´s an inherent emotional connection and symbolism behind your phone.”
