London 2012 Water Polo Competition Schedule Announced

The London 2012 Olympic Water Polo competition schedule has been confirmed, revealing when teams will compete in the preliminary rounds of the tournaments on the Olympic Park.

The London 2012 Olympic Water Polo competition schedule has been confirmed, revealing when teams will compete in the preliminary rounds of the tournaments on the Olympic Park.

Day one of the men´s preliminary competition sees reigning Olympic Champions Hungary take on current European Champions Serbia. Great Britain´s men also play on day one of the Water Polo competition, taking on Romania.

Other notable matches in the men´s competition include Montenegro vs Hungary on Tuesday 31 July, with Italy, the reigning World Champions taking on Croatia on Thursday 2 August.

In the women´s competition, day one (30 July) pits Olympic silver medallists USA against Hungary, with Great Britain taking on Russia.

On 30 July, Italy take on the USA whilst on the 1 August, Australia take on China.

The first game at the Water Polo Arena takes place on Sunday 29 June, with the first semi-finals taking place on Tuesday 7 August for the women and Friday 10 August for the men. The women´s gold medal match is on Thursday 9 August and the men´s on Sunday 12 August.

The competition will take place at the Water Polo Arena on the Olympic Park, the first dedicated Water Polo venue at an Olympic Games. After the Games, the lightweight venue will be taken down and is expected to be relocated and reused elsewhere.
