Knight Point Systems, a Reston, Va. based Information Technology Services and Solutions company, announces the addition of Dr. John Brence to its executive team as Director, Cyber Security Practice Area.

As Director, Cyber Security Practice Area, Dr. Brence is charged with all facets of cyber security business development and will guide the overall Cyber Security strategy for both Knight Point Systems and its clients. Dr. Brence, a pioneer in the U.S. Army Cyber Security programs, brings extensive experience to the position. Most recently, he was the Senior Cyber Security Operations Advisor at General Dynamics — Advanced Information Systems, where he advised corporate leadership and the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team on Cyber Security issues.

Dr. Brence, a retired Lieutenant Colonel and 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, has held leadership positions in strategic, operational and tactical commands. His experience covers the Cyber Security spectrum, to include running the Operations Center and leading the Incident Handlers for the Army Computer Emergency Response Team, as well as 1st Information Operation Command´s Forensics and Malware Section. In addition, he led the Network Defense Division and Strategy and Concepts Division of the Joint Task Force — Global Network Operations (JTF-GNO). He also served a critical role as Joint Planning Group Lead for the JTF-GNO U.S. Cyber Command Transition Plan, which developed the strategy and operational framework to integrate JTF-GNO with Joint Force Component Command Network Warfare to form the U.S. Cyber Command.

Dr. Brence is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds a Masters of Science and a Doctorate in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
