Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT): Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAT) published its financial results for the second quarter of 2012 on Tuesday. For the quarter, Mattel announced a net income of US$96.2 million, or US$0.28 per share. That is compared with a net income of US$80.5 million, or US$0.23 per share, from the same quarter of 2011. Mattel reported sales growth in almost all of its categories. CEO Bryan Stockton even stated that the company is gaining momentum with some of its most important brands despite a global slowdown in purchases. On July 2, company Director Robert Eckert sold 91,372 shares valued at US$32.57 each for a total of US$2.98 million. That same day, Robert Normile, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, exercised his option for 500 shares at US$19.43 each, and then sold those shares for a profit of US$6,760. On July 5, he purchased another 200 shares for US$19.43, then again sold them for US$32.95 each, turning a profit of US$2,700. In the last trading session, shares of Mattel gapped open sharply higher and closed higher by US$3.01 (or 9.70%) to US$34.05. The stock has been moving within a range of US$22.70 – US$34.62 over the past one year. There were 13.13 million stock shares traded, which was 5.9 times more than average volume.
