MapMuse Announces Major Data Update to its Drive-In Movie Theater Locator
Web Map Connects Moviegoers with Over 430 Drive-Ins Across North America
Reston, VA (PRWEB) July 20, 2012
MapMuse has announced the release of a major data update to its Drive-In Movie Theaters Locator Map, a free web application that serves as a guide to drive-in theaters across the USA and Canada. In addition to locating operating drive-ins with spot-on accuracy, the map provides moviegoers with background information, photos, and web links for each theater.
“Maps of places that evoke nostalgia, such as carousels and drive-in theaters, are extremely popular on our website,” says Mike Pilon, owner of MapMuse. “This map is for all the old-timers out there who reminisce wistfully about teenage date nights spent in their parents’ Chevy at the local drive-in. Now, they can relive the past and watch a movie with their kids in the privacy of the family minivan.” Featuring 437 drive-ins (a number that´s sure to dwindle with time), the map locates enough theaters that most nostalgists will be in driving distance of one. Once a user locates a nearby theater they´d like to visit, they can read up on helpful details such as operating hours and amenities, and then contact the drive-in via phone or email. The map is also configured to provide driving directions from any location. “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for moviegoers to get from their home to the theater,” says Pilon.
While many hours of research are spent refining the database for accuracy, users are encouraged to submit closures, new openings, and additional details as they hear of them. Although the theaters themselves will often update their own profiles, moviegoers are more than welcome to suggest changes to the map. Changes are reviewed by MapMuse´s staff and approved or rejected within 48 hours. Users are also encouraged to share reviews of any drive-ins they visit. “We´ve created more than just a map-based directory,” says Pilon. “The Drive-In Movie Theater Locator is a review platform too.”
MapMuse, an internet and app development company based out of Reston, VA, has plenty of locator maps on their website with nostalgic themes. Fans of the Drive-In Movie Theater Locator may also be interested in the Carousels Locator, the Covered Bridges Locator, and the Lighthouses Locator. The Covered Bridges Locator and the Lighthouses Locator are also available as iPhone apps.
