Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 23, 2012
Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has been selected by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to implement three all-electronic tolling systems through the Washington State Roadway Toll Systems Project. The project includes the implementation, maintenance and operation of three all-electronic tolling systems in the Puget Sound area: the SR-99 bored tunnel in Seattle scheduled to open in 2015, the new SR 520 floating bridge targeted to open in 2014, and the planned I-405 express toll lanes between Bellevue and Lynnwood.
As the systems provider, Telvent will implement its SmartMobility Tolling System and extend its Remote Operations and Maintenance System (ROMS), currently operational on the state´s SR 520 bridge. This advanced technology allows operators to accurately monitor toll systems operations and maintenance management to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the toll system. Tolling is a key funding tool for state transportation projects and all-electronic tolling can help reduce traffic congestion while providing drivers the convenience of traveling at free flow speeds.
According to Telvent’s Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “After the successful implementation of the ORT system for Washington State´s SR 520 bridge project, Telvent is excited to again partner with WSDOT on this important new project that will benefit both systems operators and drivers. We are confident that Telvent´s all-electronic tolling systems will allow for efficient tolling operations.”
The successful completion of this project will further position Telvent as a leader in the North American all-electronic tolling and ORT industry. The company´s portfolio currently includes six all-electronic and ORT projects, including the WSDOT SR 520, and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority 183A toll roads. Telvent is responsible for the capture and processing of millions of toll transactions daily.
