Project Management Collegiate Competition Names Project Manager for 2013 Competition
The Western Michigan Chapter of the Project Management Institute (http://www.wmpmi.org) has named the Project Manager for THE Project 2013, an Inter-Collegiate Competition in Project Management.

The Western Michigan Chapter of the Project Management Institute (http://www.wmpmi.org) has named the Project Manager and Leadership Team for THE Project 2013, an Inter-Collegiate Competition in Project Management. The competition last year saw eight teams from six Colleges competing for $10,000 in prize money and the field is expected to expand to twelve schools and perhaps as many as twenty teams competing again for $10,000 for the 2013 Competition.
The Project Manager will be Dennis Bolles, PMP. Dennis was one of the founding members of WMPMI and is a well-known speaker and consultant in project and program management. His books, The Power of Enterprise-Wide Project Management and Building Project Management Centers of Excellence, both published by the American Management Association, are used in University courses and corporate offices around the world. Dennis has served on the Board of WMPMI and in numerous roles for PMI (http://www.pmi.org) at the national level. In 2004 Dennis led the 3rd Edition re-write of the PMBOK Guide® project team to an on-time delivery. He is currently Operations Leader of the PMO Community of Practice. “I am excited about the opportunity to apply my years of experience in helping WMPMI take a project that exceeded everyone´s expectations last year and making it better.” Bolles said. Administration and Finance Lead – Chuck McKean, PMP (Director of Administration WMPMI)
Event Lead – Nadene Delana, PMP (Director of Events WMPMI)
Event Program Lead – Claire Fetters, PMP
Sponsorship Lead – Matt Boon (Director of Sponsorships WMPMI)
Mentors Lead – Kimberly Cook, PMP (Director of Mentorships WMPMI)
Volunteer Lead – Lori Bailey, PMP (Director of Volunteers WMPMI)
Each student team followed a schedule of deadlines at three stages and make final presentations of their complete plans to a panel of Program Management Office VP’s. The Final four teams, selected by the PMO panel, will present to an Executive panel of Judges on the final event day in mid-April 2013 to determine the winning teams.
THE Project 2013 will once again give students real-life business experience rather than a mere academic exercise. Of the 38 students who participated in the competition last year almost half received internship or job offers soon after the competition. “We plan to expand the visibility of the Competition within the business community this year so a higher percentage of our student participants gain access to employment or career opportunities” said Tom Shaw, President of WMPMI.
