Microsoft may have inadvertently revealed the packaging for two versions of its Windows 8 operating system, The Verge reported on Monday.

The new Windows 8, which is set to go on sale in October, will come in a white box, while Windows 8 Pro will have similar packaging but with a more dominant black color, according to the report.

Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro are the only boxed versions that will be available in retail stores.

The new packaging will resemble that of Windows 7, the Verge said.  However, the traditional waving Windows logo will be replaced with a Windows 8-style UI logo displayed prominently on the front of the box.

The change is likely an indication of the big leap Windows 8 represents from previous versions of Windows.

Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows RT — the version that runs on tablets — will be available beginning October 26th. Upgrade versions will be available in retail stores or as an electronic download.
