redOrbit Staff & Wire Reports - Your Universe Online
Sprint has cut the price of the 16 GB iPhone 4S by $50 to $149.99, and is also waiving its $36 activation fee, according to the company´s website.
The $50 price reduction also applies to the 32GB version of the iPhone 4S, which now sells for $249.99, and the 64GB version, which has been reduced to $349.99.
Some retailers, such as Target and RadioShack, began dropping prices for the iPhone 4S in May in an attempt to reduce inventory, ComputerWorld reported.
The iPhone 4S began selling last October for $199, and retailers started reducing prices for its predecessor in August of that year in anticipation of the launch.
If Apple does announce its new device on September 12, shipments will likely begin just days later.
Verizon Wireless and AT&T have not commented on whether or not they will follow suit in cutting their iPhone 4S pricing, but many believe they will.
As of Tuesday evening, both companies are still selling the iPhone 4S at $199 and up, depending on the model.
