Active Alarm: New Home Fire Prevention Technology Prevents Home Fires Before They Start
The Active Alarm is the first and only automatic device that can prevent home fires. Simply plug your stove into the Active Alarm and then plug the Active Alarm into the wall. Once your smoke alarm sounds, the Active Alarm hears the alarm and cuts the power to the stove thereby preventing the fire.

Active Fire Prevention, a Provo Utah start-up, has developed a life-saving, home fire prevention device. The Active Alarm is an automatic device that stops home fires before they start. The device acts like a power breaker between the stove and the power outlet on the wall. Once the smoke alarm sounds, the Active Alarm hears the alarm and cuts the power to the stove thereby preventing the fire.
The Active Alarm was conceived by firefighter Peter Thorpe as he consistently went on fire calls where someone had left something cooking on the stove. Sometimes, the home or building is in flames. Peter thought: “there has to be a way to stop the fire once the smoke alarm is blaring before the fire starts.”
Unlike any other fire safety devices, the Active Alarm cuts off power to the heat source. Stove fires can smoke for hours before actually igniting into flame. The Active Alarm hears when the smoke alarm is activated and cuts the power to the stove. This removes the power source from the potential fire causing material and stops the fire before it starts.
The availability of the Active Alarm unit was launched August 18th on the crowd source funding website Indiegogo. Supporters of the project can pre-order the Active Alarm device for $75. The company has also launched a “Get 1, Give 1” donation program in which funders of the Active Alarm who contribute at least $140 have the option of getting their own Active Alarm device and giving one to a family who has had their home burned by a kitchen fire.
The Active Alarm is easy to use. It simply plugs into the outlet behind the stove and the stove plugs into the Active Alarm. Once the smoke alarm sounds, the Active Alarm “hears” the unique frequency of the alarm and cuts the power to the stove.
According the National Fire Protection Association, there are over 150,000 home cooking fires in the United States each year. These cooking fires cause over $900 million in property damage. By stopping the fire during the smoking phase, the Active Alarm can prevent these fires and save billions of dollars in property damage. There is no other fire prevention device that stops the fire before it starts.
The Active Alarm is a game-changing, life-safety device. More information about the Active Alarm and its creators can be found on their website http://www.activefireprevention.com.
