Several studies conducted by the research group reached at the same conclusion that consuming even acute amounts of regular smokes have produced significant defects in cardiac functions. The same is not with electronic cigarettes.

Recently, Greek researchers studied the effects of electronic cigarettes on myocardial functions in 20 healthy young smokers before and after smoking one regular tobacco cigarette. On the other side, 22 daily e cigarettes users of similar age were asked to vape e cigarettes for 7 minutes a day.

For the electric cigarette users, a commercially available cartridge tested by an independent toxicology lab containing liquid nicotine concentration was used.

The researchers found that smoking even one regular tobacco cigarettes caused acute damages in cardiac functions. Contrary to this, smokeless cigarette users showed no signs of acute adverse effects on cardiac functions. Tobacco cigarette smoking caused disruptions in blood pressure and in heart rate while vapor cigarettes only caused a sight elevation in blood pressure.

Dr Farsalinos, one of the participating researchers said, “This is an indication that although nicotine was present in the liquid used, it is absorbed at a lower rate compared to regular cigarette smoking.” He adds, “It is the only available product that deals with both the chemical and psychological addiction to smoking, laboratory analyses indicate that it is significantly less toxic and our study has shown no significant defects in cardiac function after acute use.”
