Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) August 27, 2012

On August 27th, Likewise Skincare, manufacturer of facial moisturizer for dry skin, comments on an article published for Boston Magazine regarding the anticipated rise in skin cancer in Massachusetts.

According to the article, “The American Cancer Society expects a 26 percent rise in the number of melanoma cases in [Massachusetts] this year, and tiny Nantucket County rates among the top five countries in the nation for skin cancer, with a rate that´s 146 percent above the national average.” The article urges people to take proper precautions to protect their skin against cancer and premature aging. According to the Boston Magazine´s findings, 90 percent of visible aging can be credited to UV rays from the sun. In addition, the article references the Skin Cancer Foundation´s statement that people who use indoor tanning beds have a74 percent greater chance to get melanoma then those who have never used a tanning bed.

The article goes on to explain that base tans only offer protection that is equivalent to SPF 4. Lisa Shariat, representative for Likewise Skincare, responds to the Boston Magazine´s report stating, “Under absolutely no circumstances should a base tan be regarded as appropriate protection against sun burns. The fact is UV rays from both tanning bed bulbs and from the sun will result in premature aging and may result in skin cancer. These factors should be enough to convince people to take sun protection seriously.”

“Dermatologists recommend that sunscreen is reapplied every two hours,” Shariat states, “By carrying a moisturizer with sunscreen in it, users will be able to reapply frequently and will receive additional benefits by regularly moisturizing their skin.” Shariat suggests using moisturizers that are complete with SPF 50.
