Toshiba Expands CMOS Image Sensor Offering With Low-Power, High-Performance Devices Driving Advanced Camera Features In Phones, Tablets And Notebooks
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create break through designs, today announced the addition of two new devices to its industry-leading complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image-sensor product offering. The T4K08 is Toshiba’s first native 720p HD format sensor combining 1.75 um front-side illumination (FSI) pixel technology with SoC image processing on the chip. The T4K24 is Toshiba’s first native 1080p FHD format 1.75 um front-side illumination (FSI) pixel technology sensor. These devices deliver low-power and high-performance in a small form-factor solution for camera systems being deployed in today’s phones, tablets and notebook computers using front-facing cameras.
“As an industry leader in CMOS imaging technology, we continually strive to offer customers a comprehensive range of versatile and high-quality devices so they can design their products with features that meet current and future market demands,” said Andrew Burt, vice president of the Analog and Imaging Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. “Toshiba’s high-quality CMOS image sensors present many options to mobile device manufacturers. We are confident they will appreciate these newest additions to our image sensor line up, which gives them even more choices in capabilities and performance as they design their next-generation tablets, notebooks and cell-phone systems.”
The T4K08 is a 720p format sensor (pixel size is 1.75 × 1.75 um) supporting HD video at 30 frames per second (fps). The sensor area supports 1280 horizontal and 720 vertical output signal pixels, providing an image size of 1/7 inch optical format. The T4K08 provides excellent color reproduction through its compact primary color filter camera system.
The Toshiba T4K24 is a high-resolution 1080p FHD FSI image sensor (pixel size is 1.75 × 1.75 um) supporting FHD and HD video at 30 fps. The sensor area supports 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical signal pixels, providing an image size with 1/4.4 inch optical format. The T4K24 also provides rich color reproduction through its primary color filter camera system.
Pricing and Availability
The T4K08 format sensor and T4K24 image sensor samples are currently available with mass production, for both devices, targeted at fourth quarter, 2012. Sample pricing for the T4K08 720p is $3.00. The T4K24 1080p is priced at $4.00, also in sample quantities.
