Western Digital Launches Ultra-slim My Passport Edge Portable Hard Drives

Western Digital (WD) launched the latest versions of its My Passport family of portable external hard drives on Thursday.The new My Passport Edge hard drives come in Mac and PC versions, and feature 500GB of storage, a USB 3.0 interface for transfer rates of up to 5 Gigabits per second, and several security features such as password protection and hardware encryption to protect content from unauthorized access.
The devices have a sleek and slim design, measuring just 0.4 inches and 0.5 inches in depth for the Mac and Windows versions, respectively.
Some small operational differences exist between My Passport Edge and My Passport Edge for Mac, with the Mac version featuring compatibility with Apple´s Time Machine backup utility right out of the box, while the Windows version is formatted in NTFS and includes WD´s SmartWare software for continuous and automatic backup.
“WD's new My Passport Edge portable drives for Mac and PC offer mobile users a safe, compact, attractive way to conveniently work or play anywhere life or business may take them,” said Jim Welsh, executive vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups.

The PC version of My Passport Edge retails for $110, while the Mac version lists for $120.00. Both devices include a three-year warranty, and are available at the WD store at www.wdstore.com and at select retailers and distributors.
