First International Motomarathon™ Planned for Spanish Pyrenees May 4-15, 2013
Experienced endurance sport-touring motorcyclists encouraged to participate.
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) September 10, 2012
The Motomarathon Association, in partnership with Ayres Adventures Premium Motorcycle Tours, has set its first international Motomarathon for May 4-15, 2013 in the Pyrenees Mountains of northern Spain. Experienced endurance sport-touring riders and long-distance motorcyclists are encouraged to participate.
The 2013 Ayres-Pyrenees Motomarathon will start and end in Barcelona, traversing the Pyrenees of northern Spain from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, with dips into France and Andorra. Eight days of riding and sightseeing take in the best motorcycle roads in the world, rising above ancient alluvial plains, riding village-to-village, and the chance to bag approximately two Motomarathon “secret” checkpoints per day. Two rest days in Pamplona and Santillana del Mar highlight the Basque Country, historic sites, shopping, local culture and cuisine. With van/luggage back up, and Ayres´ selection of BMWs to choose from, this vacation accommodates couples as well.
“This will be an adventure for the experienced mountain-riding enthusiast,” said Ayres Adventures Founder and endurance riding champion Ron Ayres. “What´s incredible about the Pyrenees is the low-traffic riding. It gives you a chance to take in the fragrant pine forests, waterfalls and admire the jaw-dropping beauty of the Pyrenees´ mystical mountain cirques and meadows.”
“Although you´ll feel you´re a thousand miles from civilization, each day we will drop into bustling villages for café con leche, la comida, cheeses, wine, crusty bread and sweet cold butter and tapas. There are leisurely dinners–known as “la cena”–where we will enjoy the picante flavors of Spain. And for those who want to stay out late there are pubs and an active night life everywhere we go,” Ayres said.
“Ayres´ classic Premium Motorcycle Tours are characterized by carefully selected accommodations and cultural experiences, and personalized service highlighted by expert tour leaders who know the roads, the hidden twisties, and the ins and outs of riding in foreign countries,” said Motomarathon Founder John Metzger. “With the addition of the Motomarathon format, this special Club Tour is designed to appeal to endurance sport-touring riders who seek longer distances while accessing the highest quality roads that can be experienced on a motorcycle anywhere in the world.”
The Motomarathon´s long-distance sport-riding criteria, usually limited to four riding days, will remain intact. Participants will average 6-8 hours in the saddle each riding day, and the total number of checkpoints will adhere to the prevailing average of 15-20 total checkpoints for this event. The Association will designate checkpoints, and record them in the seasonal and lifetime standings.
During a Motomarathon, routes and checkpoints are kept secret until the night before each ride. Participants must complete a series of self-recorded checkpoints using digital cameras to photograph their badge number at designated landmarks.
The 2013 Ayres-Pyrenees Motomarathon includes motorcycle rental, hotel, breakfasts, four dinners and guided leadership as desired. To find out more about itinerary, costs and bikes for the 2013 Ayres-Pyrenees Motomarathon, click on this link 2012 Ayres-Pyrenees Motomarathon.
