File-Sharing From Dropbox Comes To Facebook Groups
redOrbit Staff & Wire Reports - Your Universe Onlineannouncement.
“Now you can share notes with your study group, add the latest game schedule to your basketball team´s group, or post a birthday video to your family´s group at lightning speed from wherever you are.”
Users can share their files by selecting “Add File” on the group page, an option that will be rolled out slowly beginning today, Dropbox said.
Users who share their files within a particular Facebook group will be making those files available to all members, and edited files will be updated automatically.
Group members will be able to comment on and "like" the shared documents.
Facebook integration is a big boost to Dropbox, giving the cloud-based services firm access to hundreds of millions of potential new users by encouraging them to share files with their friends.
It´s also a smart move for Facebook, putting the social network in a better position in the enterprise market with new solutions to make Facebook Groups more productive.
Dropbox said Facebook would not gain access to the users´ Dropbox account if they share documents.
"Dropbox and Facebook exchange only the information that's needed for you to add a file to your group," such as basic member data, email address, and groups and friends' groups on Dropbox's side, the company said.
