On December 15, 2012, Quorn Foods Inc. commented on an Examiner article by Kae Davis regarding news of the Dalai Lama promoting healthy food choices and the vegetarian lifestyle.

According to the Examiner article, “Wayne Pacelle, President of the Humane Society of the United States, joined the Dalai Lama on Nov. 28 at an event centered around animal welfare and vegetarianism.” The article mentions that the Dali Lama teamed up with the Human Society President to celebrate World Compassion Day, which raises awareness in animal rights and healthy lifestyle choices.

In the article the Dalai Lama is quoted as stating, “I was not vegetarian till about five decades ago, but when I saw hens being abused on an animal farm, I decided to become vegetarian. The media must play an important role, and even the younger generation must be informed about moral ethics through education.”

The article reports that there are great health benefits in removing meat from your diet, even if it is just removed out of one meal per day. When the Dalai Lama was asked about his views on meat in the article he stated, “A vegetarian diet is the most healthy one for you. We must respect all forms of life.”

Quorn Foods Inc. also knows the health benefits that go along with healthy food and vegetarian choices. “It is great when you have someone as high profile as the Dalai Lama promoting vegetarianism. It really brings national attention to the topic,” says Quorn representative David Wilson. “Quorn understands the health benefits in being a vegetarian, and offers vegetarian recipes and great tasting meat alternatives to aid you in your vegetarian diet.”

Quorn launched nationally in the US in 2002. Unlike other vegetarian food companies, Quorn uses mycoprotein: a naturally occurring, healthy form of protein that replicates the taste and texture of meat while being significantly lower in saturated fats and calories than meat substitutes. Quorn offers a wide range of products including ready to serve meals, food for your barbecue, breaded meat substitutes, snacks and components to make your own meals from scratch. The wonderful taste of Quorn meatless meals provides the taste of the foods you love without sacrificing nutrition.
