A unique Bay Area start-up, appropriately named Getartup for its mission to “get art up” on more walls, launched in San Francisco this month. Their flexible subscription to original art offers access to a broad range of works for a recurring monthly fee, while also promoting local contemporary artist´s work and providing income to the artists.

“Most people fail to realize what an impact their visual surroundings have on productivity or state of mind. Whether it’s a print, sculpture, or oil painting, art has the ability to magically transform a space,” says GetArtUp Founder, Tricia Rampe.

Getartup’s online marketplace allows users to browse a diverse gallery of art just as they would a shopping site. The art can be searched by size, type, artist, and color and user can see the cost of monthly rental, or choose to buy it outright. All subscription plans include insurance so the art is protected from general damage while in a client´s possession. Professional art handlers will deliver and install the art on location. The service also includes free advice from Getartup´s professional curators.

Getartup has the potential to remove a long-standing barrier to the enjoyment of original art: cost. Getartup’s unique sharing model means almost anyone can have a different piece of locally-made, contemporary art on the wall each month for a fraction of what it would cost to own. Getartup´s service is currently available in the Bay Area and is planning to expand nationally over the next year.
