Koala Pay President Troy Miller says that the agreement is a natural fit. “Fusionfarm seeks to drive collaborative opportunities that strengthen businesses and communities,” said Miller. “Their parent organization, The Gazette Company, brings regional relationships, outstanding customer service, and marketing excellence for Koala Pay merchants and users throughout The Gazette Company´s 16 county footprint.”
Electronic funds flow through the Koala Pay iPhone app when users securely link their checking account. Koala Pay works with over 200 million US checking accounts.
Fusionfarm is a digital innovation and marketing services firm started by The Gazette Company to create opportunities out of the transformations that have disrupted the traditional media industry.
“This is an opportunity to both expand our suite of services for our customers, as well as assist in supporting the start-up community in the Corridor,” said Chris Edwards, VP of Sales for The Gazette Company. “We feel that Koala Pay has a great plan to benefit both consumers and merchants with their solution and we are excited to work with them in taking it to market.”
Miller says that “merchants want and need to reach out to existing and new customers, and that place is increasingly the smartphone right in their pocket.” An estimated 55%, or 114 million mobile phone users in the United States use a smartphone. As for Koala Pay users, Miller notes that “the regular Jack or Jill out there likes deals. They also like rewards for being a loyal customer. Koala Pay makes it easy to ditch the traditional fat wallet filled with punch cards, receipts, cash and plastic cards in favor of a more convenient wallet.”
Koala Pay was founded by Troy Miller and Josh Cramer in January, 2012. Miller is a serial entrepreneur who founded Naomi´s Kitchen and Isaac´s Creamery in North Liberty. Cramer is a 12 year veteran of web and mobile development and founder of Cramer Dev in Iowa City. Koala Pay is self-funded.
