Ford C-Max Fastest-Selling New Hybrid Ever
Ford Motor Co. has announced that its new C-Max hybrid sold more than any other hybrid car did in its first two months on the market. More than 8,000 C-Max hybrids sold during October and November. In contrast, Toyota´s Camry hybrid sold just 7,300 cars in its debut period of May and June of 2006. Ford says its sales numbers for C-Max Hybrid and Energi plug-in show the new entries selling at three times the rate the Toyota Prius did when it was introduced back in 2000. Early versions of hybrid cars, which made their debut more than a decade ago, were rarely marketed as “fun” or exciting choices. Ad campaigns in those days emphasized fuel economy almost exclusively. With Ford´s newest hybrid in the lineup, the company expects the final quarter of 2012 to account for well over half of the company´s hybrid sales for the entire year. For the complete story, see:
San Diego Auto Show Featured 400+ Car and Truck Models
The San Diego International Auto Show, which closed its doors at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, had another year of record attendance and large crowds, especially in the Think Blue Eco-Center, where green vehicles and environmental technology were on display. The Center offered up hydrogen fuel-cell cars, as well as a diverse array of hybrids and EVs. The 2012 event, held at the San Diego Convention Center, offered one of the best ride-and-drive experiences on the auto show circuit. The event organizers´ research reveals that the ride-and-drive is by far the most popular interactive event at the show. A short list of manufacturers who had cars available for the ride-and-drive includes Toyota, Volkswagen, Kia, Jeep, Honda, Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford, GMC, Lincoln, Chevrolet, and Buick.. Tesla Motors Opens East Coast Charging Corridor
Tesla Motors, maker of Model S electric cars, has now opened its Supercharger stations in the eastern U.S. corridor. The cars, which have a 265-mile range with the 85-kWh battery, can now take a driver from Washington to Boston. The 443-mile trip cuts through New York City and is one of the most heavily traveled transportation routes in the world. Tesla plans to put more Supercharger stations in the corridor, and intends to provide all the electricity from solar power, eventually. The 480-volt stations allow a Tesla driver to juice up a Model S in about a half-hour. During that time, the car´s battery can add approximately 150 miles of driving range. The six-foot-tall charging devices are exclusive to Tesla, whose engineers developed a special unit that uses smaller components and thinner cables. In time, Tesla hopes to crisscross the U.S. with the stations, which would allow Model S owners to go virtually anywhere in the continental U.S. For the complete story, see:
