To help you get the facts on water the Whirlpool® Water Filtration group dispelled some common myths associated with water to give you a fresh perspective on the benefits of filtered refrigerator water.
Water Myths vs. Water Facts
Water Myth: Bottled water, tap water, filtered water, it’s all the same – Water is water, right?
Water Fact: Filtered water is one of the most effective ways to get clean, pure water. NSF International, the leading organization for standards on consumer products, suggests that home water treatment systems can help provide protection against many common contaminants found in tap water, such as mercury and lead. Most importantly, a refrigerator filtration system can filter the equivalent of 3,000 bottles of water, saving more than $600 a year versus purchasing a leading brand of bottled water.
Water Myth: You are not dehydrated until you feel thirsty.
Water Fact: Did you know that you can be dehydrated before you even start to feel thirsty? By the time you are thirsty, your body has already lost a lot of fluids. So, it is important to remember that staying hydrated is critical for your health.
Water Myth: Water won’t help me when I’m hungry. I need food, right?
Water Fact: Drinking water does in fact help with hunger pains. At times thirst feels the same as hunger; and a glass of water can distract you from eating and keep you fuller between meals.
Water Myth: Tea and coffee dehydrate you.
Water Fact: Consumption of caffeine actually does count towards your daily hydration requirement. Ultimately, tea & coffee are made from water and do not dehydrate you when consumed in moderation – that is, fewer than five cups per day. For better tasting coffee or tea try making it with filtered water. A filter can remove contaminants, such as chlorine, that can sometimes be found in tap water and may cause unpleasant tastes.
