Horizon Utilities leverages Intelex safety management solutions to monitor worker and community safety

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) January 15, 2013

Hamilton-based Horizon Utilities Corporation is expanding its commitment to superior safety by leveraging Intelex´s streamlined, centralized safety management solutions. Horizon Utilities is already recognized as a leader in safety excellence in Canada, and in 2012 surpassed one million hours worked without a lost-time injury for the second time since 2010.

With more than 400 employees and 237,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Hamilton and St. Catharines, Horizon Utilities is one of the largest municipally owned electricity distribution companies in Ontario. It will be using Intelex´s web-based safety management and auditing software to consolidate health and safety systems within one central online repository.

“We chose Intelex for the flexibility, configurability and scalability of the system,” notes Sue Stangret, a health and safety specialist at Horizon Utilities. “We liked that the Intelex system could accommodate our business processes, as opposed to us having to change our business processes to work with the software. We also appreciated the relationship we developed with the company and the fact our account manager really listened to our needs.”

Horizon Utilities´ commitment to safety extends beyond its work environment and into the communities it serves. For example, in 2011, the company provided electrical safety training for 11,500 elementary school students attending 52 schools in Hamilton and St. Catharines. During these sessions, children from Kindergarten to grade seven learn about the hazards posed by outlets, appliances, substations, transformers, hydro poles, and overhead electrical wires.

“At Intelex, we´re dedicated to helping companies improve safety performance, thereby improving health and safety conditions for all employees,” says Intelex President and CEO Mark Jaine. “Horizon Utilities´ safety record is already outstanding, and we love that they expand their safety commitment to the community. As such we´re sincerely proud to work with a company that takes safety as seriously as Horizon.”
