Overclock.net Announces First Annual Community Choice Award Winners, Sponsored by NewEgg

Almost 35,000 votes placed by the largest online community of IT enthusiasts to determine best-in-class PC components

Overclock.net, a Huddler community, today announced the winners of its first annual Community Choice Awards. Almost 35,000 votes were placed by members of Overclock.net, the largest online community of IT enthusiasts, to determine best-in-class PC components, such as processors, motherboards and PC peripherals.

Established in 2004, Overclock.net is an enthusiast community whose members are devoted to maximizing the performance of their PC componentry. With more than 300,000 enthusiast members as well as four million unique visitors and 20 million page views a month, Overclock.net is one of the largest and most active online consumer tech communities. Its members post reviews, read articles, discuss products and tech industry news, and interact with each other on topics related to personal computer performance.

For Overclock.net´s first annual Community Choice Awards, members voted on almost 40 categories of computer hardware and related gear, from CPUs and GPUs to cases and routers. Overclock.net staff worked with member and manufactures to ensure the awards encompassed all related overclocking hardware. If a product was not included in the initial consideration set for the awards, members were also encouraged to leave comments in the community forum threads of each product category. In addition to garnering 35,000 votes, members of the Overclock.net community also submitted 2,650 comments for Huddler´s dedicated Overclock staff to take into consideration. Voting took place for 14 days, between November 13 and November 28, 2012.

“Editor’s choice awards are great, but they got us thinking–if one person, or a small team, can provide great information on products, what might happen if we took an entire community of enthusiasts and asked them to use their knowledge and experience to put together product recommendations?,” said Seth Hochberg, general manager of Overclock.net. “The answer to that question is the Overclock.net Community Choice awards. We provided members a chance to voice their appreciation for great overclocker gear, and in turn, they are being heard directly by manufacturers.”

Huddler´s Overclock.net staff also worked directly with PC brands to gather more than $70,000 worth of prizes from participating companies. Voting by members made them eligible for prizes such as an Intel 3960X processor and AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-8150 processor, an ASUS Maximus V Formula and Cooler Master COSMOS 2 Full Size Towers, among others.
