United Nations Launches 2013 International Year of Quinoa Initiative

February 8, 2013

Andean Dream, The Only U.S. Company to be Invited to Participate

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 08, 2013

On Wednesday, February 20th, 2013, the United Nations will officially launch the 2013 International Year of Quinoa initiative.

Andean Dream, LLC, manufacturers of gluten-free quinoa products, has been invited to participate because of its efforts in job creation in Bolivia and promotion of the global trade of quinoa.

Quinoa, considered a Super Food by nutritionists and health experts alike, is gaining world-wide recognition for its high nutritional content. Global production has skyrocketed from approximately 20 tonnes a year in the 1980′s to nearly 100,000 tonnes annually.

This production boom has changed the course of the once poverty-stricken farmers and put them on a path to prosperity. “I saw firsthand seven years ago the plight of the Bolivian quinoa farmers, when I toured the country while my husband Fernando Lazcano Dunn served as a diplomat for Bolivia,” says Ingrid Hirstin Lazcano, Founder/President of Andean Dream. “The images of hunger and extreme poverty drove me to create a business to liberate these farmers from such destitution. It became my mission to create a company where all our products are manufactured in Bolivia in order to create a positive social and economic impact.”

Andean Dream, LLC, a fair trade and woman-owned certified business that manufactures quinoa cookies, pasta and soup mixes, sells its products throughout North America in natural and organic health food store chains including Whole Foods Market, and has recently expanded into Canada, Asia, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Two-hundred delegates, including Bolivia’s President Evo Morales, will have the opportunity to sample Andean Dream Quinoa cookies at the launch of the UN initiative.
