Gates Hospitalists Receives First Medicare Reimbursement
Gates Hospitalists reports first Medicare reimbursement after using Ingenious Med´s Physician Quality Reporting System
ATLANTA (PRWEB) February 28, 2013
Gates Hospitalists, LLC, a company providing internal-medicine physicians to care for patients in hospitals in the North Kansas City, Mo. area, has announced its first success in receiving Medicare reimbursements from the federal government. The company, which had previously submitted patient data to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) on its own, had never received a reimbursement from the government until enrolling two years ago in Ingenious Med’s PQRS (Physician Quality Reporting System) Registry.
“We were so frustrated. We felt that our doctors were doing a good job of submitting patient data to the government and that we were providing everything that was asked of us, but we still missed out on years of payments,” says Stacey Gates, business manager and general counsel for Gates Hospitalists. “Clearly we were doing something wrong.”
Gates Hospitalists, which was already successfully using Ingenious Med’s charge capture system known as impower, chose to enroll in the company’s CMS-certified PQRS Registry to improve the chances for reimbursement. An alternative to claims-based reporting (which typically results in 50 percent data loss in transit to CMS), the PQRS Registry analyzes and aggregates data regarding physician performance that has been recorded during the participation period and then sends the information directly to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) through a secure portal. Ingenious Med customers who had previously submitted their data via claims-based reporting and never before qualified for reimbursement are now achieving a 100 percent success rate for reimbursement by using the company´s PQRS Registry.
Additionally, there is now an increased urgency for hospitals and physician practices to ensure that their data is reported accurately. CMS will begin imposing a 1.5 percent negative payment adjustment on all 2015 Medicare Part B FFS billing for any practice that fails to successfully participate in PQRS during 2013, and that penalty will rise to 2 percent in subsequent years.
“Since enrolling in Ingenious Med’s PQRS in 2010 and submitting our data through their registry, we’ve received reimbursements for the past two years,” said Gates. “We’re happy to have found a method that has helped us to achieve that goal while satisfying the government requirements, thus helping us avoid being penalized in the future.”
Ingenious Med offers a range of innovative products for inpatient physician management and automated charge capture. The company’s PQRS Registry is a free service offered to Ingenious Med customers as part of their product purchase.
