Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 18, 2013
Obsidian Analysis, Inc. announced today that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has selected the company to perform a comprehensive risk-informed and performance-based assessment of radiological emergency response programs.
As part of this effort, Obsidian will design an approach for evaluating preparedness around U.S. nuclear power plants. Focusing on health and safety objectives, the Obsidian team will also identify strategies to integrate the proposed approach into broader White House, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Emergency Management Agency preparedness policies and programs. The results of these efforts will be actionable recommendations for implementation.
“Obsidian is excited about this opportunity to support the Nuclear Regulatory Commission with their critical preparedness programs,” stated Dr. Kevin O´Prey, Obsidian´s President. “This program will help the nation address the goals of safety as well as energy security. As a leader in high-quality analysis throughout the Homeland Security space, we are eager to apply innovative approaches — informed by our extensive preparedness evaluation and exercise expertise — to this national challenge.”
Obsidian´s team will be led by Sean McLaughlin, PMP and Tom Park, PMP. The Obsidian team is joined by H. Douglas Hoell, former North Carolina Emergency Management Director and chair to the Radiological Emergency Preparedness Subcommittee of the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), who will serve this project as a consultant.
