Avanquest Recommends DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB Software

March 22, 2013

File extension DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB are associated with a variety of different file types, one of which is a database file. Considering the fact that such files are used with database applications and can consist of a variety of different types of data, including text, formulas, mathematical calculations, charts, tables, fields, etc., Avanquest recently introduced recommendations on the main types of software to open DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB files associated with a database file type.

File extension DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB are associated with a variety of different file types one of which is a database file.

File extension DBX is a database file type that is created with Visual FoxPro which is a database application produced by Microsoft. Visual FoxPro assists with managing databases and files which are in the DBX format. DBX files contain information that sets parameters for tables, data, and fields to allow data to be entered into the database.

File extension SIS is related to the Sisma password management application. A SIS database file stores a variety of passwords and personal data in database format which can be accessed using a master password. The application is commonly used with the Windows operating system.

File extension USR is a database file which is created with FileMaker Pro. USR files contain typical database information as described above with the addition of layouts, scripts, and images. File extension USR is related to file extension UFSR for Mac OS X and is designed to share information with other databases.

The WDB extension is created with Microsoft Works database application which is an older program used with previous versions of Microsoft Windows. File extension WDB is similar to MDB, and WDB files contain fundamental data including text, mathematical calculations, tables, charts, and other common elements used in a database application.

There are a variety of software applications and conversion programs that will open file extension DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB. If the files are proprietary such as file extension SIS, the file must be opened using its corresponding application. File formats such as file extension WDB offer the option of being converted to another format for use with more recent applications. That said the following programs will open DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB files.

Visual FoxPro: Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9.0 will open file extension DBX and is a developer application that provides a set of tools for managing database applications and their individual components. FoxPro 9.0 is available on the Microsoft website and compatible with the Windows operating system. Since Visual FoxPro 9.0 was last published in 2007, LightSwitch in Visual Studio 2012 can also be considered for building more recent business applications.

Sisma 3.1: The Sisma password management application can be used to open file extension SIS. Sisma maintains accounts and password information in a secure encrypted database which includes a solid random password generator to keep personal data secure and protected from unauthorized access. Sisma 3.1 can be downloaded on the Digital Conference website and is compatible with the Windows operating system.

FileMaker Pro 12: File Maker Pro will open file extension USR in the Windows operating system, Mac OS X, iPhone, and iPad. FileMaker Pro is a database management application that provides a way to create custom databases, share information with colleagues, and publish data to the web. FileMaker Pro 12 is available as a trial on the FileMaker website.

Microsoft Works: Microsoft Works version 9 or Works Suite 2006 will open file extension WDB. Microsoft Works is available on the Microsoft website and is compatible with the Windows operating system. File extension WDB can also be converted to the XLS format using the WKS/WDB Converter by R&L Software. The XLS format allows Works files to be viewed in Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice Spreadsheet. WKS/WDB Converter is available on the RL Conversion website and is compatible with the Windows operating system.

These are a few of the software applications recommended by Avanquest to open and work with DBX, SIS, USR, and WDB files. Research on the topic will reveal additional applications that will open or convert these file extensions to another format for use with other applications.
