File extension 000, 7Z, and BZ2 are associated with a variety of different file types one of which is a compressed file. Taking into account that there are different levels of compression to reduce the file size, save hard disk space and make file transmission easier, Avanquest recently published recommendations on the main software to open 000, 7Z, and BZ2 file extensions associated with this file type.

File extension 000 is an older compressed file format which is created by DoubleSpace. DoubleSpace is an older compressed archive utility program used with the MS-DOS operating system which preceded the inception of the Windows operating system.

File extension 7Z is created using the 7-Zip compression utility program which offers an open source compressed format that has a high compression ratio. The compression format is known as LZMA (Lempel Ziv Markov Chain Algorithm) and is capable of compressing very large files in addition to occasionally including encrypted formats.

File extension BZ2 is a compressed file type which is commonly used with Unix-based systems. BZ2 files are created with the bzip2 compression utility which is available in open source code. The compression format uses the Burrows-Wheeler compression algorithm.

There is a wide variety of software applications that will open file extension 000, 7Z, and BZ2 files. Since compressed formats are versatile, they can be opened by their native applications in addition to a broad range of other compression utility programs.

StuffIt Deluxe: Smith Micro StuffIt Deluxe is a compression, backup, and file delivery utility that will decompress and open file extension 7Z and BZ2. StuffIt Deluxe 2010 can be used to open 7Z and BZ2 files on the Windows operating system. StuffIt Deluxe 2011 can be used for the Mac operating system.

PeaZip: PeaZip is an all in one utility that will extract, create, or convert compressed archive files. PeaZip is multiplatform and is available as an unpaid download on the PeaZip.org website. PeaZip is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and the Linux operating system.

WinZip: Corel WinZip 16.5 will open and extract compressed archive files. WinZip is compatible with the Windows operating system and is available as a trial download on the WinZip website.

The Unarchiver: The Unarchiver is an archive utility app for Mac OS X that is designed to handle a variety of different compressed file formats including file extension 7Z and BZ2. The Unarchiver is an unpaid app which is available on the wakaba.c3.cx website or the Mac App Store.

p7zip: p7zip is an open source compression utility program that is compatible with Mac OS X, Linux, and Solaris and will open a wide variety of compressed file formats. p7zip is available as an unpaid download on the SourceForge website.

7-Zip: 7-Zip is an open source archive utility that is distributed under the GNU General Public License. 7-Zip is available on the 7-Zip.org website and is compatible with the Windows operating system and Windows Mobile. The application is capable of handling a variety of compressed archive formats.

These are a few of the compression utility software applications recommended by Avanquest to open 000, 7Z, and BZ2 files. If they are associated with another file type, there is a variety of other software applications revealed in the file extension database that will open these file extensions as well.
