Blogging platform Tumblr reached an important milestone on Tuesday, having crossed the 100 million blog mark for the first time in its six-year history.

The accomplishment, first reported by The Next Web, highlights the significant growth Tumblr has seen since last April, when the platform was home to just 50 million blogs.

According to Tumblr´s “About” page, the site now includes some 44.6 billion posts, with more than 80 million posts added today alone.

Last November, Tumblr was ranked as the ninth most popular Web site in the United States, with more than 61.3 million monthly US visitors and 170 million monthly visitors worldwide. While Tumblr´s main audience is within the US, Brazil and the UK comprise a significant portion of its traffic.

Tumblr is not alone in reaching important milestones lately. Last month, the popular photo sharing service Instagram reached 100 million monthly users, while YouTube announced last week that it had surpassed one billion monthly users.
