Cybersecurity Experts to Discuss How to Construct a Secure Cyber Future
PITTSBURGH, April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Cybersecurity experts from the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will present on April 30 a free, virtual event on current research and development aimed at securing an organization’s cyber future.
In the daylong event, six experts from the SEI CERT Program will share their views on network situational awareness, incident triage, avoiding security incidents, and achieving mission assurance. The event will culminate with a panel discussion titled “10 Cybersecurity Challenges to Watch for in 2013 and Beyond.”
Two of the talks will be keynote addresses by Dr. Gregory Shannon and Rear Admiral (retired) Edward H. (Ned) Deets, III. Shannon, the chief scientist for the CERT Program, will address the ways that the cyber security R&D pipeline contributes to building the capability needed to secure the future. Deets is the CERT deputy director for Defense Cyber Solutions. He will talk about the role that security plays in assuring critical missions.
The event also will include a demonstration of a new virtual platform for cyber workforce development called CERT STEPfwd (Security Training Evaluation Platform). This platform can help practitioners and their teams build knowledge, skills, and experience.
