AirTight Launches Next-Gen UI Optimized for its Elastic Cloud Offering; Sets a New Standard for Ease of Management in the WLAN Industry
Fully Configurable HTML5 UI Meets Individual Business Needs from SMB to Large Enterprises and Carrier-scale Installations
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — AirTight(®) Networks, the global leader in secure Wi-Fi solutions, today introduced the next-generation HTML5 UI to simplify management of Wi-Fi networks and wireless IPS (WIPS) at any scale – from ten devices or locations to tens of thousands of devices or locations – via a single console and cloud-managed. The new UI is designed to relieve Wi-Fi network and security administrators of their long-standing pain of having to put up with bulky user interfaces, restrictive information display and platform support, complex configurations and non-intuitive workflows that had almost become a norm for the WLAN industry.
“Until now, WLAN administration has required highly-skilled IT staff, often needing extensive training and certification by WLAN vendors to use their products. AirTight wanted to change that and designed a management console that administrators could start using in mere minutes, on their own and get their job done as quickly and simply as possible,” said Kaustubh Phanse, Chief Evangelist at AirTight.
The AirTight Management Console has been designed from the ground up keeping in mind the UI/UX standards for Web 3.0 and Cloud applications. The interface is lightweight and usable on any Web browser, OS, and device, including Androids, iPads, and other tablets.
The configurable dashboards allow individual users to create a personal workspace and optimize the information display depending on their needs and screen size. Each user can create multiple dashboards – each with a custom layout, and choose from over 25 widgets to populate the dashboards with meaningful information. The widgets provide network administrators with a wide assortment of statistics and trends on Wi-Fi performance and wireless security at multiple levels – APs, clients, SSIDs, locations, etc., and time durations – ranging from hours to months.
“IT management involves so many aspects that it is vital for supporting tools to present simple and intuitive user interfaces, yet still offer the details necessary for the management task to be executed effectively, said Rob Bamforth, Principal Analyst, Quocirca. “Customization and configurability are key for IT managers to be able to set out what is most important for their day to day needs.”
To simplify user interaction and reduce the time it takes to accomplish a particular task, the entire administration workflow – from managing SSID profiles and radio properties to defining WIPS policies, creating user accounts and scheduling reports – is streamlined with a hierarchical tile-based organization.
Another unique capability, that enables drag and drop simplicity for deploying and managing hundreds or tens of thousands of geographically distributed locations, is AirTight’s patented hierarchical location-based policy definition and administration. Consistent policies can be pushed across all or selected group of locations literally with a single click of the mouse. Everything from dashboards, devices and alerts to role-based administration and reporting is in the context of the selected location.
“As this latest announcement from AirTight shows, WLAN management belongs in the cloud,” said Craig Mathias, a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group. “Highly-distributed operations clearly benefit from a cloud-based management strategy. AirTight is also pointing the way with a highly-customizable UI, multi-platform support, HTML5, and the integration of wireless security and access under a single management console.”
