On April 15, Colle Farmers Market, an advocate for promoting local vegetables, responds to an article published by the Daily Nebraskan, which discusses how a professor and his former students developed a plan to build an organic farm.

According to the article published by the Daily Nebraskan, Professor Charles Francis of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln´s agronomy department has been advocating for the construction of an organic farm on the University campus for two decades. Three of his former students decided to help him after learning about organic farming in his class.

The article says the farm sits on a half-acre of land near the UNL College of Law. The farm will be cultivated and funded by students using Indiegogo, a fundraising website. The site will be divided into three different sections. “The first site is an asparagus patch,” the article says. “The second is a high-tunnel greenhouse that´s unheated and covered in plastic and the third site will be mostly for research with intercropping.”

A representative from Colle Farmers Market says the company supports organizations and educational facilities that promote organic farming. “There are many benefits of using organic production methods, including taste and health,” the rep says. “It also gives the community a chance to taste local vegetables and support local agricultural efforts. We think that organizations aiming to educate and expand outreach for organic farmers, like UNL, are a great thing.”

Colle Farmers Market says its store, which will be launching soon, will help to connect these organic farmers with consumers. “Sometimes people don´t know where they can obtain truly organic food,” the Colle rep says. “Our platform will be able to connect consumers to local farmers with fresh products and hopefully make it easier for them to eat organic and live organically.”

Colle Farmers Market is an E-Commerce enabled farmers market community that is passionate about sustainable consumption and responsible conservation. The Colle movement is dedicated to connecting natural product vendors, organic farmers and all people who are living an organic and natural lifestyle.
