PLAiR Gives AirPlay-Like Functionality to Any HDTV from Any Device on Any Platform
Streaming device now shipping in the United States
Santa Clara, California (PRWEB) April 24, 2013
PLAiR today announced the company has begun shipping its portable streaming device to customers in the United States. Unveiled at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), PLAiR is the first streaming device to deliver platform and device agnostic AirPlay-like functionality from Apple, Windows and Android devices to any HDTV with an open HDMI port.
“While more and more viewers are holding a phone or tablet while watching TV, over 95% of households have yet to connect that device to control the television experience,” said Andy Tarczon, Founding Partner of The Diffusion Group. “PLAiR is enabling a wide array of tablets and phones to seamlessly share video with the television and control the playback experience.”
PLAiR users can stream their favorite network television shows, as well as local content, from almost any device wirelessly in full 1080p and 5.1 surround sound to any TV or projector with an open HDMI port. This small form-factor computer and streaming device differentiates from the AirPlay experience in two significant ways:
- PLAiR users beam videos from nearly any device on any platform, delivering AirPlay-like functionality, through a Chrome Plug-in on Windows and Apple computers, and apps on Android and iOS devices.
- PLAiR frees up its users from the mirroring restrictions of AirPlay and other alternatives. When a user beams a video, PLAiR takes over the streaming and allows the user to browse the Web, logon to Facebook, or have a lean back experience by simply powering off their laptop or mobile device.
“PLAiR wirelessly streams users´ favorite TV shows from the web to their big-screen TVs from any device, and we are committed to providing a unified experience across all the devices a user owns while remaining platform and operating system agnostic” said Saad Hussain, PLAiR co-founder and CEO. “PLAiR delivers the highest quality HD experience to any device with an HDMI port, whether it´s the TV in your living room or the projector in your boardroom.”
PLAiR is $99.00 and available in three colors: Raven (black), Aqua (blue) or Passion (red). The hardware consists of a 1GHz ARM Processor, 1 GB DDR3 RAM, 802.11n wireless, and a built in GPU/VPU for full 1080p streaming. PLAiR is available to order directly on the company’s website at http://www.PLAiR.com/store.
Based in Santa Clara, PLAiR’s mission is to bring AirPlay-like capabilities from any device to any screen. PLAiR believes watching your favorite TV shows from the web to the big-screen TV should be simple and a delightful experience. The company brings together a team of wireless technology experts to enable an AirPlay-like experience and provide wireless video streaming from any platform, using any operating system, to any device with an HDMI port. The company completed a $2.1 MM seed round in September of 2012 with funding from FLOODGATE and Elevation Partners founder Roger McNamee. For more information, visit PLAiR.com.
